华语! Cool! 2006

This Year's Speak Mandarin Campaign is held at VivoCity's Golden Village. It is also the pre-launch of Eric Khoo & Royston Tan's movie called "Yearning". I got to attend this event, thanks to Funkie Monkies, heh, coz HYR wrote a tune for the movie. The movie is to promote this　华语! Cool! 2006 Campaign, and the theme is about Ge Tai Singers The song HYR wrote is pretty interesting, the lyrics is in Tang Dynasty Poems in a Hokkien tune! Haha.. Creative or what! haha..

This Speak Mandarin Campaign (SMC) is actually as old as me. Launch by Mr LKY in 1979 to encourage Singapore Chinese nationals to speak Mandarin instead of dialects.

Today's event was a good one, I got lotsa freebies in a goodie bag! (haha.. sounds like a typical "Singie") I got to see Royston Tan and Eric Khoo! WHoo! Danny Yeo was the compere for the event. Xiaohan, Elaine Ng & Jiahui represented Funkie Monkies Productions to recieve an appreciation award. This year they even roped in KBox to participate. I guess, it is good to promote Mandarin through Music and Movies. Well, it works for me! Xiaohan and HYR and Funkie Monkies Productions inspired me to speak better Mandarin and improve on my Chinese.

Ah Mao's Vulgar Cultural Revolution Song

Another piece of interesting history. Its about Ah Mao aka Mao ZeDong.


I am not a fan of Mao ZeDong, he is an evil man murdered 30million people and he destroyed cultural arts during his rule in China. But interestingly, this Chairman Mao got some people to write a song for his cultural revolution, isnt a song a form of Arts? Haha.. nevermind, if you are chinese and you understand simple hokkien take a listen at Ah Mao's Cultural Revolution Song, I seriously think the people who wrote this song for him must have hated him. The lyrics in its purest form is ridiculous, in its vulgar form, brings far more "dignity" for people like Ah Mao...

This is an actual song, no punk intended, at least not from me, but maybe from the people who wrote it, haha.. imagine a group of patriotic people or a group of Red Guards singing that to "glorify" Ah Mao.. LOFL!

Absolut power corrupts absolutely and Ah Mao shamed his family line by being such so evil, and the shame goes on to many many generations, as a saying goes" A dragon begets dragons,a phoenix begets phoenixes, and a mouse's children can only dig holes" Those born of politically-suspect parents cannot be trusted, so good for you lah Ah Mao! I would sing this song to you if you are still alive! I will!

Power98 Final Jam 2006

I Lurvve West Grand Boulevard, every bit of them! Today I get to hang out with them at Power98 Final Jam party. Its gotto be the greatest party ever @ Zouk! I must thank Chris for bringing me in manz or else I might have missed the whole party due to some cok-ups, U saved the day Chris, u best! Especially with so many good friends and local music together, yah I just went insane at the party. The friend bands that were there.. namely

5) Electrico

Leonard Soosay was there too, this guy ah, before the party started, he is already high! Hahah!

Some girls were handeling out condoms at the party, the hongsters, instead of grabbing the gurls, they were snatching and grabbing as many condoms as they could and Brandon even use the condoms as his namecards! Insane!

SLAYER in the Lion City??

What the Fug is SLAYER doing in my country?
When did my country become so liberated to allow them in?
This Slayer concert on the Friday 13th Oct is gonna be a legendary one, because having them in to SG is like having Marilyn Manson in as well. This is shocking manz!

I am not really a fan of SLAYER but I am glad that my friends who love them enjoyed the gig. Brandon, Barry, Justin, Kayo, Jason, Shane all went and went nuts especially the never seen before "circle of death" happened while the gig is on! They must have so much fun venting their anger, screaming vulgarities, wacking strangers up. Happening eh! Brandon and the rest went to backstage somemore, and I am sure Brandon is happy like a bird now. Bran you can die in peace liao!! Muahahah

Last Prince Of Korea- Lee Ku (1931-2005)

Recently I have been hitted by the "heat" of a K-drama called "Princess Hours" aka "Goong" , so I have decided I go check out the ex-existing dynasty of Korea, namely the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

The Joseon Dynasty ended during the Japanese Occupation. The Joseon's Last Emperor Gojong's son, Lee Ku was the interesting character. Lee Ku would be the the heir apparent to the throne if the Joseon Dynasty hasnt been overthrown.

The post focus here is on Lee Ku's story and it is a tragic one, in my point of view.

Lee Ku's parents marriage was a plot by the Japanese to overthrow the Joseon Dynasty, Lee Ku's mother, Masako Nashimotomiya. was a member of the Japan Royal family, she was berothed to Emperor Gojong because she was medical certified to be infertile. The plan was to terminate "the seed" of the Joseon Dynasty.

In short ,from the day Lee Ku was born until he grows old, his status of being the crown prince of Korea had been threaten, imagine the pressure he had to go through. His teenage years he went to US to study and he found the love of his life and married her, Julia Mullock, which his family was strongly against their marriage and force them to divorce and they had to live apart. They have no children. And the Joseon seed ended when Lee Ku died last year ,died of heart attack at the age of 74 on July 16, 2005, in a room of the Akasaka Prince Hotel in Tokyo, Japan... alone.

Not many people know about Lee Ku's story, when you have the time, check out on the internet and read the true life story of Korea's last Crown Prince. History is interesting.

The Noble TOFU CUSHION!

Muahahhaahh! Yesh I am "Goong" addict! And I am suffering from the "Goong" withdrawal syndrome, so I am quite insane now. This Tofu Cushion would be one, yesh only one of the remedy for my withdrawal syndrome! The other remedy would be I fly to Korea, Seoul now and find Joo Ji-Hoon! MuahahhahhAHAH... I am "Goong" seow.. MUUUhaHAHHA!

Korean Drama - Princess Hours (궁)

This K-Drama is wonderfully beautiful!! From the storyline to the soundtracks to the clothes and image to the furnitures, they are all great. I Love Fusion and Princess Hours (Goong) is about what happened when old tradition and the modern times fused together

Based on a comic book series by Park Soh-Hee, "Princess Hours" has been the topic of a major media hype since its production started. Not only was the comic book series uncompleted, but many of those who admired the comic book watched eagerly to see how well the TV production would live up to the fame of the original book.

Set in modern-day Seoul, Palace is a fanciful re-imagining of Korea -- as a monarchy! Grand and beautiful, the Palace becomes the home to a group of young royals pulled into the political rivalries, comical hijinks, and romantic entanglements of palace life.

You might think that there's an exsisting monarchy in Korea. The Korean monarchy disappeared apparently during the japanese occupation. Goong is mainly a "what if" kind of story. What if there is a constitutional monarchy in Korea where the royal family is just a status symbol instead of a ruling power. They made reference to the British monarchy as a symbol for the people. Also they made reference to the British royal scandal between Prince Charles, Lady Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles.

This K-Drama series is worth the watch! The OST for the Princess Hours (궁) is nice, take a listen.. enjoy!

My Tofu Friend - Nicole Chen Huizhen
